Structural Changes in French VF Treatment Wetland Porous Media during the Rest Period: An Ex Situ Study Using X-ray Tomography

نویسندگان

چکیده

Clogging constitutes a major operational issue for treatment wetlands. The rest period is key feature of French Vertical Flow (VF) wetlands and serves to mitigate clogging. An ex-situ drying experiment was performed mimic the record structural changes in porous media using X-ray Computed Tomography (CT). Samples containing deposit gravel layers first stage VF wetland were extracted left dry control environment. Based on CT scans, three phases identified (voids, biosolids, gravels). impact assessed by means different pore-scale variables. Ultimately, volume biosolids had reduced 58% its initial value, layer thickness dropped 68% void/biosolid specific surface area ratio increased from minimum value 1.1 maximum 4.2. Cracks greater than 3 mm developed at uppermost part layer, while, rise void corresponds pores smaller 2 diameter. Lastly, air-filled microporosity estimated have 0.11 v/v.

Imaging biofilm in porous media using X-ray computed microtomography.

In this study, a new technique for three-dimensional imaging of biofilm within porous media using X-ray computed microtomography is presented. Due to the similarity in X-ray absorption coefficients for the porous media (plastic), biofilm and aqueous phase, an X-ray contrast agent is required to image biofilm within the experimental matrix using X-ray computed tomography. The presented technique...

Study of Two Phase Fluid Flow in Water Wet Reservoir Rocks by Using X-Ray In situ Saturation Monitoring

Displacement of oil and water in porous media of reservoir rocks is described by relative                      permeability curves, which are important input data for reservoir performance simulation and drive mechanism studies. Many core studies, such as multiphase relative permeability, capillary pressure and saturation exponent determination, depend on the volume fractions of multiphase flui...

X-Ray in-situ saturation monitoring, an aid to study relative permeability in water-wet carbonate rocks

The simultaneous flow of oil and water in porous media is described by relative permeability curves, mainly derived from laboratory experiments. Relative permeability is of paramount importance in predicting reservoir production performance and drive mechanisms and its value depends largely on the volume fraction of fluids present in the test samples. Nowadays X-ray scanners are one of the most...

An in situ powder diffraction study of the structural mixed-phase of YBa2Cu3O6+x at 200 and 300C

In this study, the YBa2Cu3O6+x samples at temperatures 200 and 300°C, as the value of x ( the oxygen content in 0the basal plane)  increased under nearly thermodynamical equilibrium condition, the structure changed from the well- known tetragonal (T) to a mixed-phase (T+OII) region (orthorhombicII phase is a superstructure). This mixed-phase region suggests a first order T/OII phase transition ...

An iterative method to estimate x-ray attenuation coefficients in computed tomography

Introduction: The basis of image formation in Computed Tomography (CT) lies in the x-ray linear attenuation coefficient of the scanned material. Compton scattering and photoelectric effect are the dominant interactions of the x-ray photons with the subject, in the range of diagnostic radiology. These two coefficients are important in tissue characterization by Dual-Energy CT (D...
